Season Two, Episode Seven titled “The Other 48 Days” aired this past Wednesday. After viewing the episode, my intial reaction was like many in that I didn’t think that it really fed into the “mystery” of the island with all its jumping from day to day to seemingly fill us in really quick as to what happend with the tailees. However, after doing some research, I would now say this is my favorite episode to date as to an episode giving clues to the mystery.

I use the term casual viewer a lot in my Lost Posts… This is not a put down, in fact, these posts are geared toward the casual viewer. It is my hope to take someone who simply watches each new episode once and clue them into a few of the hidden items packed into each show, hopefully helping the casual viewer to understnad that each new episode has a lot more value that they might initially assume.

Such will be the case with this episode…. There is a lot to talk about in this one…

Remember that on the other side of the island, Ethan was someone already on the island before the crash who had infiltrated the ranks of the front end survivors? Well, as it turned out, The tailees had their own infiltrator who tried to act as if he was one of the passengers on the plane. We were led to believe that it was Nathan. In fact, Anna Lucia seemed to think it was Nathan so much that she threw him in the pit. However, we later find out that it was, in fact, Goodwin who was the infiltrator. More about that in just a moment. However, some people on the Lost Forums seems to think that there was still something very suspicious about Nathan. In fact, there are some who believe that Nathan was a patient at the Mental Institution where Hurley went to visit the guy who gave him the “numbers.” (Click the image at the beginning of this paragraph to enlarge the image.)

I’m officially hooked on the the hit television show LOST! Stephanie starting watching the show last year when it first came out. I recall watching a little bit of the pilot episode and telling her that I really wasn’t interested in this type of show. For some reason, I thought it was going to be a mixture between a reality tv show a boring drama. However, at the end of Season One, I found out just how wrong I was about what type of tv show this really is.

I caught about the last four episodes of season one and I was hooked! As soon as they found the “hatch” on the island I relized that this was more of a mystery type show. And the way the writers were telling this story was simply brilliant. I found myself anticipating the first episode of the second season…. The day finally came and all I could say was… WOW! I could not have been more pleased and I’m drawn in deeper with each new episode..

The first few episodes of this second seaon were simply amazing and I found out that this show was not only “NOT” a reality tv show, but that it is actually one of the best told science fiction shows that I’ve ever viewed. I would go so far as to say that I enjoy the mystery involved in this show’s plot and how the story is being told more than any other Holywood movie I’ve ever watched, let alone a tv show.

I suppose one could simply watch this show at face value. By this, I mean that you could simply watch the show when it airs locally, watch it once and simply enjoy the story as it progresses. There are a lot of people who view the show in this fashion. However, I’ve come to find out that writers and producers have intended for the show to be more of an “experience” than simply viewing entertainment. For example… There are a a lot of things written into the show that if you don’t investigate a little further, you will miss out on them completely.

I’ve uncovered a ton of fan websites and a few fan podcasts, and now even the official Lost Podcast. By listening to these podcasts and reading some of these online sites, I’m able to more fully experience the show the way it was intended to be experienced.

I’ve decided to add a new category called “LOST Related” to my site as I think I may come make occasional posts about this show and some of the neat things taht I find. If you are not into the show…. I would strongly suggest getting the 1st Season DVD’s and start…. It’s really that good! If you are simply a casual viewer, then come here to my site to see some of the things that I’ve found out about the show. Here’s some stuff just to start off with…

Who Took Walt?
It was the final episode of season 1 where some of the lost cast were on the raft and thought they were about to be rescued by a boat. However, they found out quickly that the folks in the boat were not there to save them, but they wanted to take Walt from them. And they did. (You Can Read The End Of This Transcript.) Who were these folks on the boat? What happened to Walt? We were left to think about these questions until Season 2.

Now here’s where being a casual viewer doesn’t really get you the full experience. In season two, they finally get down into the hatch. If you will remember, they were asked to view an “ORIENTATION FILM.” If you watch the orientation film online, you will notice that is says…

“The Dharma Initiative was created in 1970 and is the brainchild of Gerald and Karen Degrute (sp?)- two doctoral candidates at the University of Michigan.”

In the film, it shows some video footage of the DeGrute’s. I found this photo of The Boat Others online and it is clear that the DeGrutes were the ones who took Walt away… Is that wild or what? How did someone catch this?

Cliff

The other day, I posted about finding an archived copy of the very first internet email I sent to the world. Ever since I hit my 30′s I’ve noticed that I have a lot of preoccupation with my childhood. I’ve been thinking about a lot of the things I did as a kid that I would love for my own kids to experience and things like that.

However, today, I was thinking about my very first computer. Okay, so it wasn’t really mine. My mom bought a Commodore VIC 20 for my dad all the way back in early 1981. I was eight years old at the time. I had played on a IBM PC which was had a small green monocrome monitor, but this thing was going to be in color! I remember the excitement as I watched my parents open the box. Of course I jumped right in and offered to hook it up to the tv. Within about 10 minutes, we had turned our television into the ultimate home computer.

Come to think of it, I don’t recall my dad ever really using this computer for anything. However, I recall sitting for hours reading the manuals that came with it. I recall learning how to make my own programs using the “BASIC” computer programming language. IT ROCKED! I thought I was really cool when I could write a script that would make my computer play a familiar song. It didn’t take me long to find out that this this computer could also play games. This computer sparked something within me. Ever since that first day that computer was brought into our home, I’ve had a deep love for all things computer/technology related.

Wow… computers sure have come a long way.
